Blooming Desert

There's a season when even the hardest ground gives something back — when the desert floor erupts in color like it's been waiting the whole year to say so. I painted this mesa standing the way it always has, sun behind it, a hawk riding the air above, and let the wildflowers do something the rock can't: bloom loud, bloom bright, bloom like it's certain to happen again. That contrast is the whole piece — the unmovable and the renewing, the ancient and the alive, sharing the same patch of earth.
