Tatanka

The bison is still here. That matters more than it sounds — there was a time not long ago when that was not true, when the plains were emptied deliberately and the people who depended on the herds knew exactly what that meant. This one carries the old marks: petroglyphs worn into the fur like memory that won't wash out. The sun is strong. The grass is dry. The animal stands like it always has — like it will keep standing.
