Wampum Warrior
Part of a series born out of my own wampum beading practice — sitting with the shells, learning what the work asks of you, letting that carry into the painting. The wampum belt he holds isn't decoration. It's record, it's treaty, it's identity. It's the thing that outlasted everything they tried to take. He stands in the trees carrying something older than the country that tried to erase it.
